Thoughts on "World War Z"

Last night I re-watched Brad Pitt's "World War Z" and two things come to mind. The first thing to bother me is the film being promoted as an action film. True. There is action and suspense and horror. But that doesn't do any justice to the intent of the film. Which leads me to the second thing that bothers me.
The ending.
In the movie there are clues that are overlooked, by giving us a happy ending, where the hero is reunited with his family. I think that this was suppose to be a tragic hero story. One where the hero overcomes all the challenges put before him, saves the world, but still dies. Because you see, he accidentally chooses a deadly disease that has no cure.
I believe that Mr. Pitt intended to give us a profound story. One that reminds us that our species may very well be on the verge of collapse. That we are not invincible. We are resourceful, and creative, and determined, but we are still mortal.
Guess we are just going to stay in our clueless state of denial. Dumb down the populaces, make sure we are happily consuming, holding jobs and paying taxes. Just keep those happy thoughts. Stay calm. Have fun.
